In order to give you a small overview of what you can expect to find from different jewelery materials here on the site, today we have chosen to make a small post about the metals that are to be found in the webshop. We will continuously update this post as we get more and more home from different materials.
We tell you a little about what the different metals have to offer you and what you can expect from what you buy here from us.
Brass
Here at Uniq Perler, you can find the metal, which in popular speech used to go by the name of the poor man's gold, brass.
Brass is a mixed metal, which usually consists of 67% copper and 33% zinc.
One of the reasons why we here at Uniq Perler are so happy with brass is, among other things, the metal's robustness and durability. Brass is known to be a solid metal that can take a few knocks and we know from experience that jewelery tends not to always be treated as nicely as it should be. This is where brass has its advantage, as it can withstand a slightly harder treatment than, for example, fine gold and fine silver.
Another reason we like brass is its price. Brass can be had at some very reasonable prices.
In addition, brass is often praised for having an incredible resemblance to the "yellow gold color". We like that color here at Uniq Perler and the cool thing about it. It costs a fraction of what real gold does :-)

Here with us, all brass jewelery is nickel-free and lead-free. This also means that we label our jewelery here as hypoallergenic
Brass is also a metal that is resistant to corrosion and there are actually many metals that are not, but it is brass. This also means that you will find that your jewelery will not wear out in your lifetime.
We also like to strike a blow for brass when it comes to maintenance, because it is an incredibly easy metal to keep looking good. A little warm water and washing-up liquid, a toothbrush and you are well on your way to a shiny piece of jewelery again.

Would you like your brass jewelery to last longer? - We have a little simple trick for you. Buy a clear nail polish and paint your brass jewelery in it. You will find that this coating works both as a small protective layer for your jewelry, while also helping to maintain the jewelry's shine.
Steel
Another metal that you will find with us is steel. You do this, among other things, because steel is a really hard-wearing metal and you will find that over time steel will be more resistant to nicks and scratches. Therefore, you should not be afraid to go for a walk in the garden and find the gloves.
Steel, like brass, is also a metal that is resistant to corrosion and that is a good thing, it means you can have your jewelery for many years to come.
Another cool feature of these steel jewelry is that they don't really look like steel jewelry, but rather silver. They often come with a nice shine and it doesn't fade like that either.
In addition, the price of steel jewelery is also very affordable compared to other jewelery metals such as gold and silver.
Just like with brass, we really want to beat steel when it comes to maintenance, because it is an incredibly easy metal to keep looking good. A little warm water and washing-up liquid, a toothbrush and you are well on your way to a shiny piece of jewelery again.

Steel is actually the most environmentally friendly metal to make jewelry from, as the manufacturing process for steel uses significantly less energy than for other metals such as gold, silver and brass.
Sterling silver
The last metal you can find on the webshop is our fine sterling silver. This is also the most expensive and finest metal you can find in our webshop.
We ourselves are quite fond of sterling silver, because it is an easy metal to work with, while at the same time it is considerably more robust than, for example, fine silver.
This is because sterling silver is a mixed metal, which is precisely mixed to give it some properties that fine silver does not have. This means that you get a piece of jewelery for less money which is significantly more resistant to scratches and which is also hypoallergenic. WIN-WIN, if we must say so ;-)
In fact, due to its properties, sterling is the most commonly used metal to make jewelry today, and that's saying a lot.

That that strange number most often stands after sterling silver, 925. It is actually a quality seal that the piece of jewelery you have bought in silver consists of 92.5% silver.
The last 7.5% is usually copper mixed in.
A little note from us to you when it comes to sterling silver :-)
It's a well-known secret that sterling silver tends to get ugly on the surface because "spots" can form which can take the shine of the jewellery. We think that's a bit of a shame!
